Common Entrance Examination for Design(CEED)


Common Entrance Examination for Design (CEED) is an entrance examination conducted by Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai on behalf of the Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD) for admission in to Master of Design course at the Industrial Design Centre in various IITs and IISc Institutes. Common Entrance Examination for Design is amongst the toughest exams of India. After qualifying in the paper based test a candidate has to apply separately in to each of the institutes for admission. For clearing this exam candidates need to prepare hard and collect all sorts of knowledge about its syllabus.
CEED is a qualifying examination for the following postgraduate programmes in design:
(a) Master of Design Programmes:
IISc Bangalore: M.Des. In Product Design and Engineering*
IIT Bombay: M.Des. In (i) Industrial Design, (ii) Visual Communication, (iii) Animation, (iv) Interaction Design, (v) Mobility and Vehicle Design.
IIT Delhi: M.Des. In Industrial Design
IIT Guwahati: M.Des. In Design
IIT Kanpur: M.Des. In Industrial Design*
*GATE qualified candidates will also be considered for admission to these programmes.
(b) Ph.D Programmes in Design (IISc Bangalore, IIT Bombay)

Important dates and Eligibility


Candidates must either have completed or be expecting to complete any of the following, by July 201

1. Bachelor's degree in Engineering / Architecture / Design/ Interior Design or equivalent (4 years
duration after 10+2)

2. Professional Diploma in Design (NID/CEPT or equivalent of 4 years duration after 10+2)
3. B.F.A. (4 year professional programme, after 10+2)
4. G.D. Art (5 year programme after 10th) with one year
post qualification, professional experience
5. Master’s degree in Arts / Science / Computer Applications (2 year programme after 10+2+3)
NOTE: Candidates with 3 years Bachelors degree are not eligible.
The candidate is responsible for showing eligibility while seeking admission to the specific programme in
which they are interested.
There is no age limit and a candidate can appear for CEED any number of times.

Application Fee and Mode of Payment

The non-refundable application fee is Rs. 2000 for men of general and OBC category, and Rs. 1000 for SC/ST category, physically disabled (PD), and all women candidates.
Candidates who claim to be in SC/ST/OBC category have to produce valid certificates issued by appropriate authorities.


Application submission :

CEED Application Form must be submitted online, through the website www.gate.iitb.ac.in/
CEED 2014 will be conducted from 09:00 hrs to 12:00 hrs on Sunday, 1st December; 2013and will not have any break. Following are the key features of the exam:
1. The examination will be conducted in two parts, A and B. All candidates must answer both parts
Part A is a screening test, which will be conducted by an online computerized program, and only candidates who secure minimum cut-off marks qualify to be evaluated for Part B.
Part B will be evaluated only for candidates who qualify in Part A.
Only Part B score will be used for the merit list and qualified list for CEED 2014.
2. All candidates must answer both the parts. The short-listing will take place after the examination during the evaluation stage.
3. Part A will start at 09:00 hrs and will end at 10:00 hrs. Part B will start immediately after that and will be conducted from 10:00 hrs to 12:00 hrs.
4. Candidates must bring their own pencils, sketch pens, poster colors, and other drawing materials for the examination. No drawing sheets have to be brought.
5. The question paper will be in English. No specific textbook or guidebook is recommended for preparation. Candidates may however hone their drawing, rendering, and visualization skills.
6.Candidates should report to the examination centre at 08:00 hrs (one hour before the scheduled commencement of the examination.) This is to record biometric information (thumb impression and photograph) before appearing for the examination. The photograph captured on the day of the examination will also be printed on the scorecard.
7.The seating arrangement will be displayed on the notice board of the examination centre.

After submission of the application, request for change of examination city will be accepted till September 20, 2013 with a fee of Rs. 400/- to be paid in the form of demand draft in favor of 'IIT Bombay'.
